6-Day Desert Tour of Morocco from Casablanca

Day 1: Arrival in Casablanca

Arrival in Casablanca, the largest city and economic center of Morocco. Visit the impressive Hassan II Mosque, which overlooks the Atlantic Ocean. Afterward, enjoy lunch and explore the vibrant Corniche of the city. Accommodation in a local hotel.

Day 2: Casablanca to Fes, via Volubilis and Meknes

After breakfast, depart for Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage site famous for its well-preserved Roman ruins and mosaics. Continue to Meknes to explore Bab Al-Mansour, the Royal Stables, and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail. Arrival in Fes for an overnight stay in a traditional riad.

Day 3: Guided Tour of Fes

Discover the imperial city of Fes with a local guide. Visit the Royal Palace gate, the medieval Medina (also a UNESCO World Heritage site), Bab Boujloud, the Bouanania Madrasa, and the historic Quaraouin Mosque, the oldest university in the world. In the afternoon, explore the Jewish quarter and enjoy panoramic views from an ancient fortress. Return to the riad for an overnight stay.

Day 4: Fes to Merzouga, via Ifrane and the Cedar Forest

Travel south through picturesque Ifrane, known for its Swiss-style architecture, and visit the Cedar Forest, home to Barbary macaques. After lunch in Midelt, continue to Merzouga. Experience a camel ride through the Sahara Desert, enjoy a sunset from a high dune, and spend the night in a desert camp, with Berber music and dinner.

Day 5: Merzouga to Dades Valley, via Rissani and the Todra Gorges

Wake up early to enjoy a stunning sunrise in the desert, then return to Merzouga on camels. Visit the bustling Rissani souk and the fossil workshops in Erfoud before heading to the Todra Gorges, ideal for hiking and rock climbing. After lunch, explore the Dades Valley and admire the rock formation known as “Monkey Fingers.” Overnight stay in a hotel in the Dades Valley.

Day 6: Dades Valley to Marrakech, via Ouarzazate and Ait Ben Haddou

Depart towards Kalaa Magouna to see the Valley of Roses, famous for its annual rose festival. Visit Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Morocco,” and explore the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage site and filming location for numerous movies. Continue through the picturesque Tizi-N-Tichka Pass in the Atlas Mountains, stopping for lunch and photos along the way. Arrive in Marrakech.
