5 Days Desert tour from Marrakech to Fez

Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Tizi N Tichka Pass – Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah – Ouarzazate (4 Hours Drive)
The tour starts with an early pick-up from your accommodation in Marrakech. You will drive through the fascinating High Atlas Mountains and Tizi-N-Tichka Pass, making stops for panoramic views of the breathtaking landscapes. The first visit will be to the famous Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a fortified village recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site that has appeared in many movies including Gladiator and The Mummy. Afterward, you will head to Ouarzazate, known as “the gate of the desert.” Dinner and overnight stay will be in a hotel.

Day 2: Ouarzazate – Palm Groves of Skoura – Amridil Kasbah – Rose Valley – Dades Valley (3 Hours Drive)
After breakfast, you will explore the city of Ouarzazate. First, visit the Atlas Studios, where various famous movies were shot, and then the Taourirt Kasbah, one of the most ancient and spectacular ksars in Morocco. After that, you will drive east to visit Amridil Kasbah surrounded by palm groves in Skoura. You will continue to Kalaa Magouna, famous for the Rose Valley, where an annual Rose Festival is held in May. The day will conclude with a drive to Dades Valley through Boumalne Dades, with inevitable stops at the “Monkey Fingers” rock formation and at a viewpoint overlooking Dades Valley. Dinner and overnight will be in a hotel in Boumalne Dades.

Day 3: Boumalne Dades – Todra Gorges – Erfoud – Merzouga Sahara – Overnight in a Luxury Camp (5 Hours Drive)
After breakfast, you will continue the tour to Todra Gorges, where the Todra River has carved out a grand canyon with high red cliffs. You will have free time to wander in the gorges and appreciate the beauty of the landscape. Afterward, you will drive through the palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad, with free time for lunch on the way. In the afternoon, you will reach the Sahara desert of Merzouga, where you will switch to camels to cross the sandy desert. A stop will be made for you to enjoy the magical sunset on top of a high dune before continuing to the luxury desert camp. You can enjoy Berber drums music while dancing around the campfire under the vast open sky of stars. Dinner and overnight will be in the camp.

Day 4: Explore Merzouga Region – Nomads – Khamlia – Merzouga Lake – Erg Chebbi – Desert Oasis (2 Hours Drive)
Waking up early is a must to witness the beautiful sunrise in the desert. After breakfast, you will return on camels to Merzouga, where the driver awaits. The day will be dedicated to exploring the region of Merzouga, which has many incredible sites, including sand dunes, wild lakes, mines, fossils, and fabulous oases. You will start by driving off-road to visit an ancient eyeliner mine, followed by a visit to the nomads in their handmade woven tents to learn about their lifestyle while enjoying a Berber tea. Next, you will head to Khamlia village, where you will enjoy Gnaoua music and dance performances. After free time for lunch in a restaurant, you will take a stroll in a palm grove before driving a few kilometers to see the wild lake of Merzouga, also known as the flamingos lake. Dinner and overnight will be in a hotel.

Day 5: Merzouga Dunes – Erfoud – Midelt – Cedar Forest – Ifrane – Fes (7 Hours Drive)
On the last day of your tour, you will wake up early to witness the beautiful sunrise in the desert. After breakfast, you will return to Merzouga and visit Rissani, the ancient capital of Tafilalet. After exploring the lively souk of Rissani, you will continue to Erfoud, where you will visit a workshop for fossilized marble. Then, you will drive along the Ziz River, stopping for a panoramic view of the Ziz Valley before having free time for lunch in Midelt. The tour will continue to the Cedar Forest, where you can see Barbary macaques. After that, you will visit Ifrane, known as the Switzerland of Morocco. Finally, you will be dropped off at your accommodation or the airport in Fes, marking the end of the tour.
